Let Your Hands Be Strong

Let Your Hands Be Strongby Matt Shelton[bandcamp width=350 height=470 album=3866367060 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=e99708 tracklist=false] “Faith is transferring your trust from your own efforts to the efforts of Christ. You were relying on other things to make you acceptable, but now you consciously begin relying on what Jesus did for your acceptance with God. All you need is nothing."—Timothy Keller, How Can I Know God?This song is a simple prayer of surrender and trust, allowing what we know about God to be true, to become our trust in Him.Do we trust God is who He says He is, that Christ did what He said He did? Do we believe that we are now made clean by His sacrifice? Do we really believe that He is actually making us Holy, not apart from Him, but with Him in our suffering, making us more like Him?If we do believe this, that Jesus, being in eternal community of Joy, Love, and Holiness, cares about our Joy and Holiness enough to leave perfect community, suffer to the point of death on a cross under our weight of sin, so that we may be in communion with our Heavenly Father, then why do we not trust Him to provide for us, when it is Him that initiated the goal of making us more like Jesus? Why is it so hard to "transfer the trust from our own efforts to the efforts of Christ" when our efforts are exhausted and limited, and His are finished and bountiful. May we continue to be reminded of His finished work on the cross, His continued work in us, and the trust that we can place in the hands of God. For His faithfulness is not in question.

Matthew 6:25-33

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?g 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Lyrics

Let your hands be strong,My heart belongs to you,Let your spirit fall,Just like the morning dewIn the hands of the wicked,I cursed and buried you.,In the hands of the wicked,You loved me throughSo it’s You I trust and me that just won’t do,Cause you know my steps before I ever do,So when you summon the sun,Would you summon me too,Even the wind and sea are listening for You, so I do.Let your life be true,to the grave I follow you,Let your kingdom come,on earth as it is with You.In the hands of the wicked,I take the lie for truth,In the hands of the wicked,You came right through. So it’s You I trust and me that just won’t do,Cause you know my steps before I ever do,So when you summon the sun,Would you summon me too,Even the wind and sea are listening for You, so I do.Let your hands be strong,My life belongs to you,Let your hands be strong,Even the birds are given foodLet your hands be strong,The flower’s clothed by you,Let your hands be strong, in my life, because I give my life to you.So it’s You I trust and me that just won’t do,Cause’ you know my steps before I ever do,So when you summon the sun,Would you summon me too,Even the wind and sea are listening for You, so I do.
